Competent Person’s Responsibility

Must be registered in terms of the Engineering Profession of South Africa Act, 1990 (Act No. 114 of 1990), or section 11 of the National Scientific, Professions Act, 1993 (Act No. 106 of 1993), and hold a current Professional Indemnity (PI) Insurance prescribed by the NHBRC Council in respect of the Certification related to:

The appropriateness of design and construction of homes.

Compliance with the Home Building Manual 2015, SABS/SANS 10400 Collection for Home Builders.

Any other matter that may be required to be certified in terms of the Home Building Manual.

The Competent Person is also responsible for the signing of the following NHBRC documents relevant to the NHBRC enrolment:

In the instance of problematic soils (dolomite, heavy expansive soils (clay) or collapsible soil, the Competent Person must supply additional documented Designs Calculations and Assumptions with Blocked Design Diagram(s) accompanied with Precautionary Measures.

Any structure greater than two (2) storeys is regarded as a technical enrolment and will therefore require a structural design report including calculations, designs and assumptions.

In the instance where a raft design is recommended by the Competent Person a full design along with assumptions and calculations, must accompany the enrolment documents to the NHBRC.

We will follow all Procedures, Rules and Regulations to ensure that you stay within the bounds of Act 95 of 1998 and thus prevent suspension, fines, criminal offences ending up in being convicted, which can also include imprisonment.

We also initiate your Registrations, Enrolments, Renewals, Status Upliftments, Late Enrolments, Technical Advice, Dolomite & Limestone, Selling Price Upliftments, Building Contracts, Quotations, Cluster Developments, Sectional Title Projects (Phased), Cancellations, Owner Builder Exemption, Account Reconciliations, Method of Payments, Non-Compliances, Suspensions, Disciplinary Measures Management, Conciliations, Financial Guarantees, Financial Solutions, Insurance Solutions, Risk Assessments and Competent Persons Registration.
